Hey Bob & Neil, take a look, a few more old Aberdeen
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Here are a couple of shots of the Battle of the Bulge diorama that used to be in the right rear( coming through the entrance doors) corner of the museum.

Its now in the warehouse...

the flamethrower DUKW outside

There appears to still be a DUKW in the collection (and only 2 ever in the collection - 1 from the inactive files), so it may still be behind the fence... <shrug>

Is that a guntruck I see on the left? I think we've discussed it before...

and a few APC's

Yeah, with a little re-arranging this could have showed the progression of APCs. The M39 is in the warehouse, in good condition. The M113 and T114 are at the parade field. And the T18E2 (M75 pilot) is in the storage lot we got to look into during Bob's tour a few weeks ago...

Keep 'em coming Jeff! I need to look through these for the soft-skins & others to at least confirm what was around c1979-early 1980s...

Hi Neil
as I told Bob I have around 350 slides of Aberdeen , all on Kodachrome 25 0r 64, taken on multiple trips between 77-81, but at the moment I just don't have the resources to transfer them so I literally am just shooting pictures of my slide viewer and cropping them so the quality is not great. But I'll try to put up a few more of the softskins and armored cars, the rocket launchers on the right of the building and the V-1 & V-2 just for laughs

Skeleton tank

Hmm... It had the or at least a turret... I wonder where it is now... I remain convinced the Ordnance Museum is about like my apartment (sadly), if it was once there it almost certainly still is since almost nothing is ever thrown away (except in a few notable instances)... Its just a matter of finding it... Of course it could have been a re-production turret someone made up in the intervening 60 years and wasnt original, and therefore they didnt use it after the most recent refurb...

Flamethrower Sherman to left of museum

Now at Fort Leonard Wood...

some of the rocket launchers to the right of the museum building

To the left is the Nebelwerfer 41 15cm MRL (the towed one). I think its still in the collection... Dont know about the truck-mounted one just yet, that shows up as an empty spot on the Ordnance Museum map...

There should have been a second row of mortars behind the MRLs... Maybe prior to, or after, this picture...

The Hummel, not Nashorn, that used to be there at extreme right

Isnt that the sIG 33/1 Grille? - its still there...

The BA-64, I think its still in the collection...

Okay... What is the APC-looking thing to the left of the Somua S 35, in the background behind / by the hood of the truck-mounted MRL?... It seems to be occupying yet another empty spot on the Ordnance Museum map...

It is a panzer II, I have other photo's of it. I believe Mr. Wheatcroft has it at the moment and it may return with the Tiger and Marder.

There was also a large plexiglass board with all the vehicles outside listed in their position right inside the museum near the water fountain and I have a photo of it.. You can read it on the my original slide but it doesn't show clearly if I try to make a copy. I have other slides with vehicles in the background but I believe that between them and the big chart you could generate a pretty accurate chart of what was there and where it was

Nice pics, Jeff, thanks for posting them. I've never been to APG (I know, I know, inexcusable for somone growing up outside of Philadelphia...) so it's nice to see the place, if only vicariously. Smile

yes, that chart appears to have been made sometime after my photos, My photo's pre-date it and show some vehicles missing from the chart, between it, my photos and the plexiglas board listings we should be able to get a pretty good feel for what was there and where it was. Incidentally IIRC the MRL next to the Nebelwerfer was Soviet Bloc

Hmm... Closest match I can find from info on the museum records would be a Soviet "5-ton 6x6 Cargo Truck with 130mm MRL" (one of the inactive files).

Yeas? Neas?

I know, I know
Praga V3S 6x6 truck with 130mm multiple rocket launcher vzor (Mk.) 51.
Both (truck and MLR) are Czechoslovak makes.
I guess this example is/was a war booty from Suez war.

Looks like a match - thanks palic!

Unfortunately I didnt take a picture of that particular inactive file (so I dont know that its that particular catalog item) - but that item was acquired from "Ord Tech Intell" (Ordnance Technical Intelligence) in 1959... Which would be right after the 1956 Suez/Sinai War... And the very next item in the catalog, the SU-100, was captured by Israel during the Sinai War.

I take it these were supplied to the Egyptians?
