The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Kingtiger no 280251, Schweizerisches Militärmuseum Full (CH)

Kingtiger at Full, Switzerland

(As usual, click on the pictures to get larger ones)

I finally saw it on Saturday. The famous Kingtiger from Thun, which is currently restored to running condition in the Schweizerisches Militärmuseum at Full (Switzerland). I spoke with a volunteer from there and he said that they hope to make it run within 5 years. They have located some parts in Poland and maybe in other countries. I took some pics of the interior, which is surprisingly in very good condition (IMO). The museum also got the spare gun and the part from the hull which were also exposed at the Thun tank museum.

I aslo took a photo of each vehicle in this museum, and I had the great chance to be able to visit the museum's reserve (or storage building), in which they store something like 1/3 of their collection. If someone wants to do or update a list of the vehicles exposed/stored there, I can help (maybe for a Swiss AFV register?)

And next week I really hope to be able to see the Saumur's KT running for the Carrousel !!

Pierre-Olivier,
I am looking forward to going to the carrousel & meeting you this weekend as well.

I am in the UK right now, attended the Royal International Air Tattoo on Saturday - I did get some armor pictures (amongst lots of wingie-things) which I'll try to post shortly.

Unfortunately my Rome trip (no armor content was planned) was cancelled, but I am still on for heading over to France for the weekend - just barely!

Neil

Lesley,

I'm very busy now but I'll do that list after my trip with Neil at the Saumur Carrousel, in 1 week or 2.
