M24 Chaffee at 1st CAV.....
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: M24 Chaffee at 1st CAV.....
This M24 Chaffee sits beside the M26 I previously posted, in the Korean War memorial beside the 1st CAV parade field.
Serial number was located below the MG port, (623). There is also a T626 stamped into the side of the hull, beside the drivers hatch. Joe Demarco told me that the T626, means it was the 626 hull assembled by Cadillac at their Detroit facility in October 1944. This M24 as well as the one in 4ID's collection are very early builds. Starting with serial 713, M24's had rectangular fittings with 16 bolts located on the lower rear and front portions of the hull's. These were flotation adaptor brackets. M24's were also built by Massey-Harris but these do not have the serial on the front of the hull and no numbers stamped beside the drivers hatch.
On this particular M24, notice the rare Infantry field phone box which is still attached.
A total of 4731 M24's were built btween April 1944 and August 1945. However I dont know the break down between the manufactures.
This particular M24 was acquired from Ft Riley around 2002, per Steven Draper, the 1st CAV museum director.
