Hungarian T-72s
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Hungarian T-72s

A friend and collegue of me visited last weekend the Kecskemet air show in Hungary. Besides a lot of aircraft were also the following army vehicles;
4 x BTR80
4 x BRDM-2
2 x T-72. Ik heb de chassisnummers voor
1 x T-55 on a low loader

The s/ns of the T-72s were 80245 and probably 80298 (could also be 80238). There were no tactical symbols or vehicles rns as we know on these vehicles.

What is ''strange'' about these sns is that they are completely out of range of what I know so far about T-72 c/n.

Is there someone on this forum who can shed a light on this???

The Hungarian tankcommander, which spoke perfectly English, told my friend that there are at this moment just 15 operational T-72s and that these will be phased out in the next one to two years.

The T-55 on the low loader was not operational anymore.

regards,
Lesley
