M51 VTR
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: M51 VTR

Hello everyone,

Well, I finally located this elusive beast, and the funny part was She was right down the road from where I located 2 M60's months earlier.

Story I heard was this particular vehicle was used at Oak Ridge to drag test subjects into a "Radiation Chamber?" in order to test shielding and other effects on vehicles. Once they stopped doing that She sat abandoned there until some decided to rescue her. The Tennesee Gaurd moved her here after doing some cosmetic work. That's what I was told anyway.

Located on Weakly Street in Smyrna TN, inside the fenced compound of the CSMS shop. You can see it from the road but access to the compound is limited. GPS location is +36° 0' 35.26", -86° 29' 43.76".

Old Top, does She bring back memories?

The last M51 that I had (ole Olive Oil) is now sitting at the armored vehicle museum in LA, Ken Este and I happen to stop by one day in 2004 and there she was.
