KV-1S at Parfino
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: KV-1S at Parfino
Can anyone shed any light on the origin of the preserved KV-1S at Parfino, Russia?

The vehicle bears a curious mixture of features. The configuration of the driver's front plate and the episcopes above it suggest that the hull may have come from a KV-8S flamethrower tank,

The rear hull looks like that of a KV-1 Model 1942 with an angular rear overhang. The engine deck has been completely decked over with treadplate and is missing most features, so it's impossible to draw any conclusions from that.

The lower front hull carries round mounting plates for the towing eyes but also has applique armor with trapezoidal cut-outs, a combination that was typically only seen on KV-1 Model 1942s in the ealry summer of 1942, before the KV-1S entered production.

The turret looks like a mid-production example (later casting seams, but no hand-rails).

It's pretty obvious that the vehicle was cannibalized using parts from multiple sources, but the combination of a KV-1S or KV-8S forward upper hull with a KV-1 Model 1942 rear hull has me intrigued.

Anybody know where this vehicle came from?
