Hello all, I took the family to theTemple Air Show and had a great time. We saw many static displays, Tora Tora Tora show, and a Vietnam "Experiance" show. I hope over the course of the next week, you will enjoy the pictures I will post here of the sights and "wingy things". However I will start with the Armor and ground forces that were there and then show the Vietnam era aircraft before showing other items of interest. I hope you all enjoy.
First I will start with the 720th MP's, M1117 vehicle that was on display. My youngest loved it as well as the Navy Seals exhibit, (go figure!).

Now we're going into the MVPA exhibit. These were some of the same vehicles that were later used for the "Vietnam Experiance" show. The M113 is from the Camp Mabry museum and was a driver used in the show. It was transported to the show on a HETT. I was showing my oldest son many of the itmes on the back of the M37, telling him I had almost everything on display and then some, when I realized all I needed was a vehicle myself and possibly a trailer and I could also display and take part in the displays. I plan to join the Lonestar Chapter of the MVPA if they will have me.

OK, and now we have some Vietnam era aircraft, an C47 "Spooky", Skyraider, and Mojave. All of these aircraft flew in the Vietnam Experiance show. The Skyraider was the "shiz-nit" as with every pass he would go vertical and barrel-roll over the top.Other than the F-16, he was our favorite "military" plane to watch fly.

Jeff,
Nice pics. I'm wait'in for the day someone mounts a 106mm RR on an M37 "beep". It's been done for real (we had two) and it was an effective platform. I'd kill somebody to get me one o' them M151A2 ( even and A1) gunjeeps' like in your pics. It needs cav guidons on the side of the fenders, though.
And it's good to see a good old-fashioned OD green OV-1 Mohawk people sniffers. We had a bunch of those going in and out of Phu Bai...some of them carrying more armament than the regs said was "authorized", if you know what I mean.

Jeff -
My eight year-old was jealous when I showed him the pics of your son in the M1117; he wondered why his Dad only did Civil War reenacting . . .

Here are some more pictures from the Air Show. The MIG 17 was supposed to fly but upno it's que to fire up, something malfunctioned and it never fired up ans was pushed back into a maint bay. The A26B Invader is named for the city of Waco, about 60 miles up the I35 from Ft Hood. The Bird Dog and Piper were sharp little birds. All the spotter planes flew during the Vietnam demostration.

Here is another installment of pictures from the Air Show. These are the helicopters and some aircraft taxiing past. Does anyone know what the Soviet bi-plane is?, I never got to it but it was giving rides for a fee.

That's the end of the show. The only other pictures I took are of civilian aircraft and stunt planes, not to mention all the pictures I took of aircraft in the sky that look like specs instead of planes with my cheap camera.
I missed being on here and maybe got over-zealous in my posting in this particular thread, sorry. I'm looking at joining the Lonestar chapter of the MVPA, now I just have to find myself an vehicle, I already have tons of equipment and gear from the 50's-80's. Just today I literally found an PRC-25 radio back-board and accesories bag in a garbage can. I brought them home and scrubbed them up and they will look good with whatever display I eventually put together. The packboard was dated June 1970.
So Doug, when are you getting FT Hood way? You and anyone else coming this way needs to look me up so I can give you a show around the post. Joe DeMarco hooked me up with one of his M4 buddies from Canada and I escortede him to all the displays and hidden equipment around the post over a 2 day period.
Jeffrey, Morgan and "Household Six" send their regards!!!

I might have humped that PRC-25 backboard overseas, Jeff, take care of it!
Not to worry, you've been away a while, no article 15 for the pics...this time.
I'm off to Italy next week, but I'd like to make Hood and Bliss...I've got oodles of vacations...so maybe that needs to go on the "to do" list. Probably not a summertime excursion, though. Remember...I've lived in Texas!
Best to HH6!

Jeff
I've got just the plan for you , but most likely just a really good contact in the MVPA downthere....
Find me some affordable transportation in the 15 ton range, to move some 'Yard Art' from Southeast Texas to Kentucky, I'll be forever in your debt....
I may be heading South in June, with truck & trailer, if certain things fall in place. Crossing my fingers....
Regards
Don
