It's add-on armour. I read an article which talked about improving the armour protection of the Danish M113 to be capable of defeating 25 mm APCR, but I'm not completely sure if this is the armour they were referring to.

- MarkHolloway What is that 'siding' made of? Modern equivalent of "SchÃ¼rzen". Thin plates of corrugated steel with little holes in it, designed to catch and tumble smaller caliber rounds.
