Leopard 2 in Alexandria 1984 ???
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Leopard 2 in Alexandria 1984 ???

Hello,
Yesterday I met a guy who in 1984 had been a crew on a ship transporting a tank from Britain (Tilbury or Immingham) to Alexandria for tests in the desert. A few weeks later they transported it back to Britain again.
His memory of this event was excellent - but I am not shure about what kind of tank/vehicle.

When unloading the tank at the port there was a Soviet ship already ready to record the unloading - they obviously knew they were arriving...

The person claims that it was a Leopard 2 and that the tank was a cooperation Germany-Britain. ????

Can anyone tell what it could have been? Why was a Leopard 2 in Britain in 1984? Was it a Leopard at all?
