Elefant to the UK?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

A post on the HMVF board says that the ex-APG Elefant may be heading Bov's way? That'll be a bit nice if it's true.

The US got screwed when the Tiger went to Europe, I doubt CM wants to go through that experience again

Going to a national museum, for a specific display. Can't see a problem.

It's better on display than stuck in a warehouse! It arrived at bovington, U.K. Later this year. It will form part of the tiger display with all the tigers together in one exhibition: Tiger 1, Tiger II H, Tiger II P, JagdTiger & Elephant. Quite a coup for Bovvy.

I don't know if they have managed to negotiate to borrow a SturmTiger from German.

That sounds like an amazing lineup. I would LOVE to see it.

I agree that it is terrific that the Elefant will be on public display.

The first time I saw it, back in 2006, it was sitting out by the railroad tracks on APG - we found it accidentally while looking for a different route off base from the museum. By 2008 it had been somewhat restored and painted. The last time I saw it was in 2010, again sitting by railroad tracks, this time at Ft Lee. I'm glad it will be indoors and publicly accessible. I do, however, wish the display was a bit easier for me to get to than Bovington!!

Not to rain on any parades, but does anyone have any official documentation on this from Bovington, Fort Lee, CMH or anyone?? This may of just been a rumor that was started with no solid evidence...

I'd just like to know what the US is getting out of the deal and who is paying for it...

Pzkpfw-e, Tiger 712 went to Germany 30 years for their musuem and it came back in worse condition than when it left. It went over intact, came back in pieces.

It was mentioned on a newsletter from Bovington. See the dedicated thread

It's announced on the Tank Museum Facebook page now.

It's regarded as unlikely the Russians will lend us theirs.

Hopefully this will open new opportunities to take better pictures of the Jagdtiger and King Tiger "Porsche". I was never happy about their locations inside the Museum.

I plan to be in Bovington in June to attend TankFest.

The US Ordnance Musuem confirmed that is going over for a 2 year loan and that the Brits are paying for everything...
