International Oryx MPV on display in Ottawa
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: International Oryx MPV on display in Ottawa

www.internationaldeliv...l_Oryx.asp

Monday night I drove by the back ramp to the Ottawa Congress Centre where I recognized an odd squat shape on a lowbed. Went over to see and there were two guys already eyeballing this thing. One thought it was a Nyala, but the other disagreed; I disagreed too. But didn't quite recognize it. He said, he'd been out on a task outside Kabul AF and got into a minefield. An Engineer Nyala came out for them. He was quite impressed.

As I was headed back to the car, I saw three truckers. I asked if the load was his. 'Yes, sir.' said one. He answered my questions. It is an International, a prototype, he's delivered them/it to 9 previous shows, mostly made in US, assembled in Springfield ILL, and based on a South African design.

I thanked him for his time, and recommended they check out the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier not far away. The two others were worried about getting the truck out of an 8' freight elevator. And I left.

The thing I noticed was a very clean underside, with a bulge for the transfer case and driveshafts. Otherwise, quite unemcumbered. As an added touch of cultural sensitivity, the decal on the back door had ARMOUR spelled correctely with a U, eh?

Hi Maple! Hi Folks!

Interesting, thanks for the link.

Armour or Armor, when I was a kid, I couldn't understand why there was two ways to spell that word. Shocked

Sgt, Scouts Out! Smile
