Roll Call for Memorial Day Weekend Gathering at Fort Knox
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

I live walking distance from the post traffic circle and probably go a couple of weeks without leaving the installation.

Well folks you can strike one from the list of attendees.

After spending all day at work today to try and get my current project close enough to being back on schedule that I could thik about taking a few days off I have to admit that there is no way I can take the time off and make the schedule.

So I won't be making the trip.

Yeah, unfortunately, there are no cheap flights going into Louisville that weekend (RIP Independence Air), and I dont think either of the compatriots from my trip 2 years ago are up to driving 10+ hours again... And I'm sure not up to doing it on my own...

Unfortunately, it looks like I am toast Sad

Hey folks, unfortunately it still looks like I wont be going. Plenty of other things are now arising to fill my schedule.

But anyway, I did talk to Don. Even though I wont be there, here's a rough outline of what we discussed in terms of an agenda:

Saturday, May 27 Life of the Soldier Interpretive Exhibition
1000 - 1800, Patton Museum
www.armorfortheages.com/

You're basically on your own this day, as I'm sure Don will probably be busy with the exhibition, etc. Feel free to tour the museum & museum grounds at your own leisure, etc.

2000 Dinner? You guys decide...

Sunday, May 28 Behind the Scenes Tour
1000 - 1200 Drive around post to see notable tank monuments, including the "Heavies" (T29, T30, T34), MBT-70 "Pigg," M60, XM800T ARSV and XM803. Possible stop by the museum as necessary / desired.
1200 - 1330 "Shorthalt" (Burger King / Mini-Mall / Shoppette)
1330 - 1630 LST Building & other museum storage facility

You guys may want to consider e-mailing each-other to get contact details, etc.

Have a good time regardless!

Or perhaps I can come up with a small contest of 'Scavenger hunt' give clues, and a map, serial #'s as the 'answer' with nomenclature.

Digital pics are bonus.

Alot a certain time period and a finish line. Only rules are no speeding or breaking any laws. Accuracy of SNs and perhaps rubbings of description plates,....anyone like this idea?

Don

Check yer PM's, Bud. Wink

...and I'm not up for anything if we can't speed or break laws. Probably not the scavenger hunt type...you already know my priorities...

Gotta there 'Big Guy'.

What I have been thinking of doing is compiling a 'Unofficial' Tourist map of Ft Knox with all the static displayed Armored Vehicles listed on it perhaps even a photo of dedication plaques and any Serial Numbers or unusual features.

Just a thought to assist the casual visitor or tourist.

Don

Oh, yeah...an annotated map with location of all "monuments" and displays, and historical buildings would be great!

Hey, ya' think I'm gonna' be 'lowed to drive out Porter River Rd.? IF not, can I recruit an escort who can go? I'd like to make it over to Cullen Maint. Facility, Richardson, and that other tank park (Not Boatwright).
