Post subject: Creating way-points in FS9

I decided to make a new topic about this cause from the other post I'm not having any luck...

I'm trying to create a flight in FS9, I load my starting destination, then I load my arrival destination...I have the GPS flight checked, and hit find route. It then displays the route in a pretty general straight line from airport to airport however I do not want to fly in a straight line....I want to create some additional waypoints between those two but am having no luck..I can grab the red line & pull it but it won't stay where I put it..just bounces right back where it was..I tried deleting the arrival waypoint but the delete button is greyed out and it won't let me...I need help..lol..

It's easier than you think, Hangman.

There's a row of buttons, above, to get things displayed on the map, as airfields, VOR's and NDV's, intersections and so on. Once you have them activated, all the available facilities are shown in the map.

Choose one, in between the take-off and landing points you selected, and drag the red line there upon. If on the same location there's more than one facility (id est, an airfield, a VOR and an NDB), you'll get a pop-up window opened asking you to select one. You'll see on the list to the right the new waypoint appearing.

You can add as many as you want. If you're not happy with one of them, just select it in the list to the right and then press the "Delete waypoint" button below. Once done, save the flight.

Case you want to change your flight plan, without screwing it up completely, once you loaded it, click on the "edit" tag above, and not on the "find route" button: if you do so, the planner will cancel all the wayponts you set previously, and propose you again the former "flat" flight.

Hope this helps.

Marco

Right. You can't drag the red line just anywhere, because FS9 needs an actual "hard" target to use as a waypoint....those can be other airports, VOR stations, Intersections, or whatever navaid shows on the map.

It does limit you choices if you are looking to define a very tight and specific flight path in an area devoid of markers and such.

that might be the problem then, the area I'm choosing is kinda void of any of that stuff..might ave to move the flight..is there anyway at all around that?

just happened to run accross this little proggy ...... Cool

FS2004 Flight Plan Waypoint Editor

This program enables you to edit an FS2004 GPS route file ('.pln').
You can edit existing .pln files or create your own from new.
This program is aimed at people who want to specify waypoints using Lat/Long.
It has built-in Lat/Long converter which will convert from degrees-minutes-seconds to degrees-minutes (decimal).

Wow, great find, Fled!
Taking it right now, hehe...
Just take note the filename at AvSim is "routeeditor.zip", just to ease the research Wink

There's also a topic in the "Learning Center" that briefly discusses opening a flightplan file (*.PLN) with Notepad and adding waypoints manually. You need to know the exact coordinates to do this though.

Easiest method for editing the file: Don't double-click it, Windows will just fuss about not knowing how to open it. Open an empty Notepad window and drag the file into that.

I've also used that method to make a "loop" flightplan that starts and ends at the same place. You just need to edit the header info as well as the waypoint list.

Cool

FS2004 Route Editor v2

An update to Route Editor, enabling the GPS to be programmed with any Lat/Long.
The previous version only edited 'VFR Direct GPS' routes.
This program now saves routes as either VFR or IFR and you are able to select routing as direct GPS, low altitude airways, high altitude airways or VOR to VOR.
Saving files automatically prefixes with either VFR or IFR.
