StuG III G in Hayward, California?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: StuG III G in Hayward, California?

Looking on a french magazine, I've found this photo :

This StuG III Ausf. G seems to be located in California and participates to reenactment with the World War Two Reenactment Historical Group.

Having a look on Neil's AFVs list, I've seen that one StuG III G is stored by a private owner in Hayward, California.

Is it the same that the one on the photo?

Does somebody have other photos of it?

P-O

Not sure if this is close, but how about a replica for comparison sake. Similar angle.

that's a repro of the StuG III G based on the British FV 432 hull.. My guess is that the vehicle reproduced is not as ugly as some german AFVs I've seen in some old films (I remember having seen "reproduced" German Half-tracks based on the american M3 one.. however that's not the worst..)

I plan to include to my website a PDF file listing some examples of reproductions of german armor based on modified modern vehicles...

Any comments, info about the StuG in Hayward.?????

Post subject: Re: Possible Canadian roots?

Pierre-Olivier,

I don't have my references at hand to verify this but the Stug G that formerly stood at Sarcee Barracks in Calgary was sold off to a re-enactment group in the US who restored it as a runner. This vehicle was well covered in the Squadron-Signal "Stug G in Detail, Walkaround" by Tom Cockle- perhaps comparison to the photos in that book will answer your question.

Cheers!
Bruce

I found this on a search on reenactment groups in the US:

"2.Panzerdivision (HRS): Based around Chicago, IL. The largest Heer (army) unit in the Midwest that has a fully-operational Sturmgeschütz III, Hetzer, several SdKfz 251 half-tracks, and other assorted soft-skin vehicles. Commanded by Scott Koelling."

Rik, I have more recent infos :

The StuG III has been sold by the 2.Panzerdivision association to the 9. SS Panzerdivision reenactment group in 1999. It was previously a Canadian war trophy which was exposed in the Canadian Royal Artillery museum.

Hayward is about 30 minutes east of my location. None of the local reenactment groups show this vehicle on any of their websites.

Hehe ... more recent is an understatement to say the least, should have looked closer.

Cheers,
Rik
