On this link
www.916-starfighter.de
you will find an excellent collection on (almost) all Starfighters used by the German Air Force and Navy. It also has a cartoon-corner that's worth visiting.

Regards

There was once a saying...." If you ever wanted to own a Starfighter, buy an acre of land in Germany " . The Canadian Airforce flew this bird for a number of years but tasked the aircraft to ground attack roles although it was designed for high alt. intercept. The aircraft had a " kicker " feedback control on the stick that malfunctioned a number of times resulting in fatal crashes at low level and high speed. The problem was traced to a needle valve in a servo and corrected saving future pilots lives...awsome bird from the skunk works

The GAF and GNY also tasked their F-104's for the ground attack role, with some devastating effects. The crash-rate got better when the yearly flying hours for the pilots were increased to gain more experience in a non-forgiving aircraft. Those who mastered the challenged loved to fly the F-104 and never wanted to convert to more "modern" aircraft. As far as I know that was the case in every Airforce (or Navy) that had the F-104 in its inventory.
