Post subject: Why can't I view these DVD's......?

Halp! I was given a DVD presentation that was created on a Mac and I think the software used was "Toast". Apparently, everybody but me can view these on their XP systems (of which I have two) and I can't view them in the "presentation" way that was intended. Oddly enough, I can when I pop into a DVD player connected to television.

I was able to extract all the images from folders and view, but they are out of order and you don't get the "automated" photo progression and cool screens that are part of the package.

Any idea why it won't play on my Windows systems, but it apparently does for others?

Have you tried different players?
I use Media Player, Real Player, and Gom (don't use this last one much though and beware of installing it as it defaults some of your file extensions to favour itself.
What's the file extension you're trying to view?

Tried Power DVD, Windows Media Player.

With WMV, it opens, but doesn't do the slideshow or progress, even though it says "playing". Power DVD, when I try to open it as "Play movie", just give black screen, but says it's playing.

It's a three DVD set of still pictures, each in separate folders. Jpg files. I can "explore" and have downloaded the pics, but I'd like to know why the presentation doesn't "play". On either of my systems.

We'd like to get this worked out as to whether it's just my system, or a fundamental incompatibility thing. The one we're working on is (like this one) a history of a unit in Vietnam and we want everyone we send to not to have any problems like I'm having with this one.

This sounds like something similar to a problem I'm having...

Took some avi's of EURO_ACBrit1's band at a gig and converted them to wmv to compress the files.
But, when I try and join them into one clip, all that comes over is audio.
No visual.

If that's what's happening to you, I'm afraid I haven't found a fix yet.

Try VLC and see if you're still having the same issues... Smile

Toast is burning it as a DVD (Video TS) file. Most DVD's for the US users are in NTSC format while some use the EURO format PAL. Some players can play both, but not all.

These were burned by a USian on domestic system, so that shouldn't apply. This is a collection of images put together to "play" in sequence, like a slideshow.
Was burned on a Mac, but this has apparently not been an issue for others.

Rgr Ascout, I understand. Did you try VLC? It could be a codec issue of some kind. Wink

Will try it later at home. Do I just download and then try to play?

Rgr...Download, install and see what happens. If that doesn't work, see if you can find out what file type extension is used... Wink

Somebody else suggested I probably don't have right codecs and to try WinDVD. But that costs money after trial, so I prefer free solution, if it works.

What file formats, specifically, should I be looking for? The images are all jpg's, each one in it's separate folder. I was able to extract and save, but they are not in right order and I don't get the "show".

Have you tried the Quick Time player?

Well, I downloaded VLC AND Quicktime and neither will open. I do notice a file on the disc that says "configure Quicktime", so it seems it's meant to be openable with that. But it ain't.
