Help/Pics Needed - State Arsenal Military Museum, Lincoln,NE
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Neil,

See my Picasa website at;
picasaweb.google.com/gebinder01

The M4A3E8 at the State Arsenal/NE Nat'l Guard Museum is under "M4A3s in Nebraska"

The M60 that sits just south of it is under "M60's".

I will try to get some better photos of the M113A1 and the M59 when the weather clears up (everything is under several feet of snow)

I need to check Yutan again. I have seen the M60A3 at the VFW Post. It is about 1/2 mile south of Hwy 92 on Yutan Road (2nd Street in the town). The tank faces ENE. I am not aware of the second M60A3 in town. I will check again this spring.

re: "Hamilton, NE" - no such place that I can find. I saw that on the TACOM listing and thought that an M7 in Nebraka would be delightfully unusual (the NE ArNG didn't use them that I am aware of). I looked up the location on Google Maps. I went out to the area south of Geneva and found nothing but farms.

In Beaver Crossing the M60A3 is in the city park near the ball fields, facing west. Nice afternoon shots.

The Battle Creek, NE M551 is in poor shape and was placed on display with the turret traversed to the rear. Sloppy handling by someone along the line. This one really piqued my curiousity as the NE ArNG never had M551s.

I have some of these on print film which is why they aren't on the Picasa site. I need to do some afternoon runs this spring and update my photography. I need to print off the s/n guide for M60s also - that hasn't been a big priority for me personally so I haven't been recording them.

The NE ArNG went from an infantry regiment (134th Inf) to a Mech Infantry Brigade (67th Inf Bde, Mecz, Seperate) to part of the 35th Division. They had an armored cavalry troop based in Fremont with the heavy tracks stored in an equipment site near Mead, NE. A former WW2 bomb plant had a lot of federal land available - some went to the Guard, some to the University of Nebraska and some leased out. The NE ArNG also had an Armor battalion, 1/195AR based in the Hastings area. The Cav went from M41 to M48A3 to M60 to M48A5 then to M1 then the mission was changed and the armor is gone. The 1/195AR was also deactivated. Those units were the source of the M60A3s around the state. I think most of the orliginal flavor M60s came from the USAR, perhaps some from the Guard. The Shermans came from the Tank Company of the 134th Infantry Regiment and some from the 195th. Knowing a National Guard or USAR heritage of an area can give one some idea of what to look for.

Hmm... Most likely its a double-listing for an armory with an M7 in _Montana_... But... I do have an address listed as 1010 K St, which matches up to an armory in Fairbury... Perhaps a double-check there, but otherwise I'll take it off?

Thanks, further details on location (GPS, address or cross-streets) would be much appreciated - as well as pics of course...

Hate to tell ya, but the 67th is now a Battlefield Surveillance Brigade (and was a "Support Group" since 2003) - the new name for Military Intelligence Brigades, albeit with cavalry reconnaissance, surveillance & target acquisition (RSTA) / UAV units mixed in...

www.tioh.hqda.pentagon...rigade.htm

Its cavalry RSTA unit is 1-134 Cavalry (134th Cavalry redesignated from the 134th Infantry), reflagged from the former 1-167 Cavalry...

Yeah, I know every job has its importance but I still wish we had a "combat" brigade around. Give me infantry, armor, artillery... I'm just getting old.
