Things to see near Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Things to see near Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

During the last week of February I am scheduled to attend a seminar in Las Vegas. I am hoping to have some spare time to visit a museum with AFVs or "planes, trains, automobiles" as they say.

Who has tips, hints, recommendations?

Thanks,
Hanno

Not directly related to 'trains, planes, automobiles or tanks' I think Hoover Dam is definitly worth seeing.

Oh you are in for a treat - there is the Liberace Foundation & Museum, Elvis-a-Rama Museum... Pinball Hall of Fame okay I'm being sarcastic.. For people with our set of mind there is only the Atomic Testing Museum with its interesting collection of Geiger Counters.. stop it stop it Jim behave yourself...

Sorry about that; side effects of having to stay there at my sisters for two whole weeks once with no interest in gambling, minimal internet access and no decent military vehicles for 400 miles...

Thanks for the replies. I could not recall any tanks being there, but was hoping one of the casino owners has an extensive car collection or some such (I reall reading about one of Hitler's cars being owned by a Las Vegas museum?).

So if I have some spare time I'll go for the regular sight seeing; Hoover Dam certainly would be interesting to see!

Regards,
Hanno

The Imperial Palace hotel on the strip has the "World's Largest Classic Car Showroom".

Here's the link:

The Auto Collections: The World's Largest Classic Car Showroom

Might the Nevada National Guard have some tanks on display, as gate guardians?

Nellis AFB is on the North Side of LV. There are lots of planes there but don't know if they have any on display where the General public can see them. It is home to the Thunderbirds

www.a2zlasvegas.com/ot...seums.html

I found this on teh Web. Don't miss the Erotic Heritage Museum Shocked

Seriously the list includes the Carroll Shelby Museum at The Las vegas Motor Speedway

Nellis AFB has an extensive Threat Training Facility (otherwise known as the petting zoo) that has a decent number of AFVs. Its probably not open to public visit, but it could be worth a call to the Nellis PAO.

The TTF is not even on the web anymore, so I have my doubts

If you go to Hoover Dam (which you should) you might stop by the railroad Museum in Boulder City:
Nevada State Railroad Museum, Boulder City

There is a small aviation museum at the airport:
Howard W. Cannon Aviation Museum

As mentioned, see the auto museum at Imperial Palace:
Imperial Palace Auto Collection

The only tank I know of is an M41 up in Overton on the main street at the VFW:
Overton, Nevada

Looks like the 'Hitler Car' is gone. Here's what they have:

While reading the latest issue of "Air Classics" magazine I came across the information that the 1939 Mercedes-Benz Model G4 Offener Touring Wagon mentioned previously in this post is on display at the Lyon Air Museum @ John Wayne Airport in Orange County, CA.

The website is www.lyonairmuseum.org/
