All things Patton
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Put a new (bigger) book shelve in my "Study" and had to reorganize my library today, so I decided to take a picture of my "Patton Series" -10 Manuals before stacking them with all the others.

Manuals

I'm kinda proud of my little library Mr. Green

Yep,

But some are not from my days, especially the M46/47/early M48 and M60A2 -10's. Took a little work acquiring those. Speaking of digital, CEV and AVLB I have in that format.

Something else to ponder for those that have old TM's laying around, Try finding a -10 TM for the M60A3, Last one I seen available (ABE Books) on line they wanted 190+ dollars Shocked You could have quite a treasure trove squirreled away.

Makes me very happy I hung on to mine when we switched to M1's (Both '79 and '91 versions).

Damn. guess I'm in the wrong business,.....

I have thrown away volumes of excess M60A1 & A3 TMs in the near term past. Even though they were offered to me, I didn't think of adding them to my 'library'.

Guess I need to rethink disposing of ANY TM's, and adding them to my personal 'stockpile'.

Thanks for the tip.....

I found an M114 TM for about $10 in a gunstore, which I promptly sent to "Mr. Lingle" himself. Mr. Green

I think I still have a M60A1 Gunnery Manual in my piles...somewhere. Don't know if it's worth anything, but for some reason I haven't thrown it away.

Hang on to it,

You never know who might want it later on, I got quite a few gunnery manuals, from the 50's all the way to the 80's. Some really good info in them that is no longer taught to the "Jedi Tankers". Always had fun explaining to new troops some of the gunnery skills we had to know, indirect is one that comes to mind.

Priority one is of course my "Patton" series TM's , FM's, FKSM's and STP's. Like having them handy when answering questions, that way I can include illustrations and the actual reference number.

Eventually I'll get the rest of my stuff out, but that will take just as much space.

Don,

Remember the AWATs Building on Knox, they were literally just handing out obsolete TM's in the late 90's to get rid of them. Saved many from the recyclers. Those early M1 Pub's are quite interesting when comparing to what these troops have now.

Oh yeah,

One of the more bizarre manuals I have (not really sure why I kept it...) is the -24 & P for the little tracked, Hawk Missle transporter.

Of course the neatest manual I have (for me at least) is the draft XM1 gunnery.

I'm betting there will be a bunch more 'pubs' stockpiles being thrown away in the near future, gotta keep my ear to the ground for that occassion.

Hmm I tend to collect manuals for soviet/russian equipment these days - some 110 at the last count - most of which need a dictionary & magnifying glass to read and some I haven't the foggiest what they cover because diagrams tend to be a bit scarce in them. In case your wondering about that I have a contact in the Moscow embassy who sends me them when he finds them in the flea markets and sometimes neglects to tell me what they are about...

Best one I ever read? A report on American equipment in the 1960s with recommendations as to which equipment to adopt after North America is conquered...
