End of an era, vintage AFRTS report from Germany
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

I remember watching this in the barracks when I was in Budingen,

3AD AFN news 1985

Me and a couple of friends were enjoying our evening Licher beer after another long day at the motor pool. My buddy (Scout) looked over at me and pointed at my patch and said, "I guess they forgot about you tankers here". Being we all were 3AD soldiers and still had M60A3's. For some reason they forgot about our 36 tanks and crews during that report. Fired my last gunnery in Germany on those same tanks (FEB '86), Long after this news report Rolling Eyes .

WOW Joe!!! You mean they had color TV when the M60A3 was being fired?! Cool

Me and 'Yanbo' got to 'The Rock' on July 86. 1st Bde had the 'new' M-1IPs. Its always cool to swap old beat up M-1's for newly issued M-1IP's.

I am still sure I have a couple of photos of a 3/12 CAV M60A3 firing on Rg 117, finishing up a TT VIII day run. I think it was Oct/Nov 86.

'SPEARHEAD' !!

Yeah,

The Irony, The Tank Battalions go from M60A3's to M1IP's then to M1A1's and the CAV kept their M60A3's during all of this. IIRC they finally turned in those old girls just before they became 4-7 CAV.

BTW, I didn't get become a "Kilo" until NOV 90.

I love all the videos on Canadian Army Trophy. I just wish I could find some from 1989, when I shot with 4/32 Ar.

'We' were at Graf during the 87 shoot, doing the regular level one gunnery.

I have a video somewhere I'll have to dig out. For one of our battle-runs at Hohne our Challenger had a camera installed (I can't remember why now) so one of my battle-runs is recorded for posterity.

The only slightly embarrassing thing is that one of my machine-gun firing commands can be distinctly heard to be 'Give it some sh*t'...

Trevor, that firing command would be SOP for some of the Southern National Guard units here. Here is one overheard at an Alabama tank unit summer training:

TC; There's a tank out yonder, a hair to your left!
Gunner: I sees it, I sees it!
TC: Well shoot the sumbitch!

You forgot the final part of that fire command....

Gunner: 'Ah-ight' (alright, short for 'on the way')

BANG!

TC/LOADER/DRIVER/GUNNER: "AHHHH YEEE !!!" (target cease-fire)
