Strykers to New Romainian Training facility ?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Strykers to New Romainian Training facility ?

Just saw this on Stars & Stripes. Didn't know that the US was setting up a new training facility in Romainia ?

STRYKER BRIGADE MAY GET FIRST ROMANIA ROTATION - 2007 is target date for 2nd Cavalry Regiment deployment
The first U.S. forces to rotate into the future training facility in Romania will likely be from the 2nd Cavalry Regiment (Stryker), probably some time in the summer of 2007.
The Stryker brigade is expected to relocate this year from Fort Lewis, Wash., to Grafenwöhr. One of its battalions plus a few other units are expected to go to Romania for the initial rotation, according to Maj. Gen. Mark Hertling, the U.S. Army Europe deputy chief of staff for operations.
In the summer of 2008, the first regular rotations of U.S.-based brigades to Romania are expected to begin.
“I’m not sure which brigade that’s going to be or what kind of brigade infantry, airborne, Stryker but it will be one of those brigades, Hertling said. (Source: Stars and Stripes)

Yup. That's part of the logic to moving most combat units out of Europe. The Romanian training facility (don't remember the name of it) has excellent range potential, for really long range stuff like MLRS and AH64/Hellfire. The base there is supposed to be a non-fixed installation, in the sense that the permanent staff is to be small. Units will rotate in and out for 30-45 day rotations, and stay in fairly austere facilities. The Romanians are very supportive and helpful. Apparently US dollars are still worth something there.

Grafenwoehr and Hohenfels, in Germany, are supposed to be used in a similar manner. I suspect the facilities in Germany will be a bit more civilized.
