Type 97 Japanese tank reproduction with... German markings?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

well this is quite a nice "Type 97 Shinhoto Chi-Ha " reproduction, very well done, but I wonder why the guys painted that tank with German markings?

My guess is that someone needed a German tank for this particular event - or movie? (let's hope not). They already had this repro tank available and painted it in German colors for this event? Hopefully?

It was an FV432 that was rebuilt into a Type 97 for the movie "The Great Raid" and subsequently acquired by a group of re-enactors who wanted a 38T.

*shrugs* Doesn't make a huge amount of sense really since it probably looks better as a Type 97.

Indeed it appears that FV 432 AFVs are really the better vehicles to start with if you want a German or Japanese WW2 vehicle reproduction.
FV 432s were modified into StuGs, Tiger Is, Type 97 tanks etc.. the hull of this APC is really great to be modified.

Private Snuffy's immaculately pressed trousers are at least worth an honorable mention....

Long time lurker, first time poster

The Sherman from "Great Raid" was very well done and a credit to the blokes that made it.

It went to HBO for filming on " The Pacific"

I've got to be honest and say I'm not a great fan of the FV432 / Type 96 / painted as a Czech 38t as I'm not sure what their intention is in terms of display and use of it.

A little while ago we had photos here of someone who dressed up an automobile or SUV to look like a German halftrack. Having any sort of tracked/turreted vehicle to play the part of a 38t was probably a bit of a coup for them.
