Need some help does anyone know what is going on at Kubinka?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Need some help does anyone know what is going on at Kubinka?

Hi Everyone
I need some help, does anyone know what is going on at Kubinka Tank Museum, I plan to go there in October and I've heard a rumor that some or all has been closed due to major reconstruction. if there is major work, does anyone know when it is expected to be completed and whether it would interfere with my trip in the fall? If I go what is closed? What is open? Does anyone here know what is going on?

Museum closed from 14-th april to next Tankman's Day (september) for reconstruction. Current plan of reconstruction is unknown (in progress).

It's all i can say right now about museum status.

BTW repaint team start to repaint tanks in Hangar #3 (light tanks), first project - repaint of T-30 light tank, in future plans making of Red Army camo for T-37A (done), T-30(in progress), TT-26 (start to remove old paint today) and BT-5 (winter 1941 camo scheme).

Taranov, was that camouflage pattern on the T-37 used very often? Secondly, is that green paint close to the WWII shade or is it just a modern interpretation? Thanks for the pictures!

It's camouflage of tanks from Kiev maneuvers (wargames), 1935. Big red line - for Red side. Basical color - modern green, we just add camo and markings. Correct 4BO color looks different.

Some new shots from last visit:

SP-6 paint stripper - i'm lovin' it! Laughing

SP-6 paint stripper + angle sander vs. 70 years old paint (2 mm thickness). Turret of TT-26 RC tank:

T-30 in progress, first layer of basical color is done. It's not 4BO, but looks simitar.

I really enjoy to see this kind of work to be done !!
Reading this thread, I think about my project to go to Russia this summer, planning to visit some places (Kubinka, Poklonnaya Gora, various military museums) and I see that I would not have been able to visit Kubinka at it would have been closed in August. Fortunately enough I will not be able to go there this year. In 2008 I hope !!
