News from Ft Knox
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Armor for the Ages has been updated in four areas.

First, major news! As Don reported, the SdKfz 251D/9 Project is very near completion. All of the major components have been reassembled and a base coat of paint applied.

Second, the Patton Museum Photo Tour section has had a few photos upgraded and added.

Third, a special page has been added to the museum photo tour showing some of the improvements museum director Len Dyer and staff have been making to the vehicles in the museum.

Patton Museum update ... Vehicles are beginning to be removed from the display areas in front of the museum. Today, the following vehicles have been moved off their pads, and parked at the back of the museum parking lot: XM1 PV-1, M551 Sheridan, M113A1, M48A2C. The T29E3 was moved off its pad and parked in the lot for the Crittenberger School.
I assume all these vehicles are destined for Benning, but I don't know where they are going right now ...

They'll be moved to Richardson, I assume. That is where the staging area is located.

I've been 'out of the loop' for a week, but will drop by tomorrow and find out 'the plan', and perhaps get some photos for the interested.

At 1000hrs EST, I observed 'Convoy 1' head South on I65, enroute to Ft Benning. Crying or Very sad

Loaded vehicles were:
1 M24 Chaffee
2x M3 Stuarts
1 M84 APC
1 LVT
1 MicV 65
1 M42 Duster
1 M981 ITV
1 MTLB
1 PT 76

I could still use some help with _which_ exact vehicles were part of Convoy 1.

Which 2 M3 Stuarts went of: the 2 M3A1s in the Patton Museum (one is SN 8281) and the 7 M3 Stuarts at RMP - M3 Stuart empty hull & turret SN 158; 5 M3A1s (diesel SN 793; 1343; 2564; 6826; empty hull & turret 8722); and the M3A3 (10673).

Which of 3 M84s at RMP: SN F7, RN 13C635; RN 12D261; RN 12H860 (formerly at Merrell Hall).

Which of 2 M981s at RMP: SN C3257 and SN MAA22698.

Spent a few hours at the Museum today.

The moved vehicles are only awaiting movement to RMP. That is where they will eventually be loaded up for the big move to Ft Benning.


The T29E3 is also to be moved to RMP. It was moved off the pad to the parking lot since too much would have been torn up if it had been moved to where the other vehicles are located.


The Huey having been taken off the stand last week was moved today, to RMP. An interesting trip around post.

Bummer.

Only had time to read the first 3 pages and will continue later, but can say I'm glad I had the chance to visit Ft. Knox and the Patton Museum twice, the last being the unveiling of the 3/5th memorial 5 years ago or so. Have the pics, video and the memories.
