T34/76 recovery video.
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Interesting example of the minimum-tech approach to recovering that tank!

(Skip to about 20:00, unless you want to watch a lot of "how not to rig a heavy lift", international hillbilly engineering, and a lot of talking.)

That recovery vehicle didn't exactly inspire confidence, did it? It had a lot of trouble just dragging that T34 out of the mud. Imagine how it would deal with a mired T55 or T62 like it was designed to do.

It looked like it was in pretty good shape. Any indication what happened to the guns, and if there is any intent to restore the tank? Are they going to try to make it a runner?

I'd guess yanking an inverted T34, full of silt, out of a bog, is a bit harder than pulling a bogged-down T55-62 out!

Actually, I was referring to after the T34 was up and flipped over, and they were trying to drag it back up over the embankment onto level ground. That recovery track was making heavy weather of just pulling it up the slope.

The fact that they broke several sets of cables and rigging just trying to get it out of the mud to begin with is pretty solid evidence that it wasn't easy to get out of the bog. I've done some big lifts and some heavy iron without ever snapping a cable or trashing a snatch block like that.
